The Arch 2014

The ultimate event of the year is a return to The Arch, part of Hafod Estate. The Arch is located at ‘Penbwlchbodcoll’ - ‘the head of the pass of lost existence’ The old masonry arch spanning the road was built by Thomas Johns of Hafod in 1810 to mark the Golden Jubilee of George III.

Schools Orienteering 2014

For those of you who do not know the background to the schools orienteering project which has been running now for 4 years under the tuition of Bill Marlow and Terry Smith, here is some information. It basically started from LAPA funding given in 2010 to develop orienteering and ultimately increase our Club membership. The way this was approached was through holding cluster events for the various primary schools in the county of Powys, to be held annually with the help of the 5x60 Officers responsible for each of the cluster groups.

2014 BBC Wales Sports Personality Unsung Hero Award

I would like to take this opportunity for both myself and the Club in congratulating Bill Marlow for being awarded the 2014 BBC Wales Sports Personality Unsung Hero Award, which was given to him at the North Powys Schools Orienteering Competition held at Gregynog on Wednesday 19th November. He was nominated by his neighbour Ken Evans for the award having seen him in action at one of our Cluster events and was duly impressed with the way the whole event was conducted and the amount of work that goes into organising these events.
