For the non-orienteer, this corner of the old Hafod estate offers 3 trails. The Arch woodland trail & the Beech trail meander through 200 year old Beech woodland whilst the viewpoint from the Panorama Walk is one of the most inspiring in Mid Wales. The Cambrian Mountains trail from Borth to Pontryfendigaid also transects the area.
Most of these walks are encompassed within the orienteering courses planned, as such paths are generally distinct particularly on the yellow & orange courses. The area also includes well used forestry roads, forest rides however are often indistinct and not reliable. The area includes a variety of deciduous and coniferous woodland, forest, heathland, marshes and a number of fallen trees & brashings as well as young pine trees. Whilst these will affect progress and route choice on the more technical courses, you can enjoy of selecting a Christmas tree, enjoy the magnificent views and develop a hearty appetite for the club meal after the event at the Hafod Arms!
Santa hats or a xmas decoration are mandatory. Reindeer can be left at home. Forecasts for a white event are increasing, but not guaranteed.
