Congratulations to all who took part, thankfully we were blessed with good weather (not always the case!). I deliberately planned the courses on the shorter side, after all it was a Cluster event, this was to give encouragement to all. Even so, looking at the results the times ranged from 12m 35s to 53m 14s on Yellow and 10.14 to 48.04 on White.

The Team results are calculated by adding the three fastest times per school for each course. The Results are as follows:-

White Course (Yr. 3/4):

1st ButtingtonTrewern 32mins 49secs

2nd Guilsfield 36-07

3rd Carreghofa 47-44

4th Montgomery 49-14

5th Llangedwyn 54-22

6th Llanfechain 65-58

7th Leigton 68-27

8th Llansantffraid 69-19

9th Forden 107-13

Yellow Course (Yr. 5/6):

1st ButtingtonTrewern 40mins 34secs

2nd Guilsfield 45-14

3rd Forden 48-14

4th Pennant 52-52

5th Montgomery 53-26

6th Carreghofa 53-51

7th LLanfechain 61-10

8th Llanraeadr 61-33

9th Leighton 68-15

10th Llansantffraid 82-36

The Welshpool & Llanfyllin Primary Schools Cluster Championships will take place at the Gregynog - on Tuesday 10th October - with kind permission from the interim CEO of Gregynog Hall, Michael Hoch.  The timings will be announced at a later date for the competition, but please note that there will be no exercises prior to the competition this year.

Entries: All Primary Schools in the Welshpool & Llanfyllin Clusters are eligible to take part. Entries must be received no later than Monday 2nd October 2017 on the Excel spreadsheet. We operate an "all inclusive" policy, so if you have any children with additional needs they may enter and be accompanied by an adult so long as it is declared on the entry form - in the interest of fairness adults must not accompany any other children.

Entry Fee: You will need to send your £15.00 cheque (payable to “Mid Wales Orienteering Club”) to Katie Hamer (CSP - Sports Development) <katie.hamer@powys.gov.uk>. This must arrive no later than Monday 2nd October 2017.

Individual event: Those competitors on the White or Yellow will be allowed to go around individually, in pairs or at the worst in threes (this year we are restricting the number of entries to 8 pairs per Course per School).  I have written in to the software that if a control is missed out then a 5 min Time Penalty will automatically be added. This means that no one goes away with "Disqualified" next to their name in the results (unless they forget to Clear before the Start, or forget to Dib at the Start and/or Finish!), i.e. a positive result occurs.

Year 3/4 - White Course - tbc.
Year 5/6 - Yellow Course - tbc.

Team event: As well as an "Individual" Championship, a "Team" event will operate within each colour course. Namely, after the competition has finished then the three fastest times per school will be calculated per course and the school with the lowest aggregate time per course will win that colour course/Year group(s), etc., etc.

Equipment used: The Sportident hardware and software  will again be used for this event. Collection of Dibbers will be from the Download/Enquiries tent beforehand; all dibbers must be returned at Download afterwards. Each Dibber costs £40 to replace, so please ensure that the children secure it on the index finger using the adjustable elasticised strapping, otherwise your school will be billed for any losses. See downloadable attachment below for more information.

Clothing: Trainers should be adequate footwear for all courses – there may be a few muddy and/or slippery areas on all courses at this time of year. You are recommended to bring a waterproof jacket, as October can be bathed in glorious sunshine or it can be cold and wet!

Results: A full set of Individual results and Team results will appear on the Club website (www.mid-wales-orienteers.org.uk) as soon after the event as humanly possible.

County Championships Entry Eligibility:
A “selection policy” will be used again this next academic year, namely that the first seven Schools to finish on each course (Yr. 3/4 on White and Yr. 5/6 on Yellow) will be eligible for the North County Championships (6th February 2018 at Gregynog) + any pairs who finish in the first 10 per course at their Cluster but their school did not qualify through the “Team” event. However, School teams that have qualified are restricted to bringing a maximum of 8 pairs per course.
If a school does not enter the Cluster event, then they won’t be able to compete at the North County Champs.

Joining Mid Wales Orienteering Club (MWOC)
You are welcome to come along and compete at any MWOC event during the year, even as a non-member. See the Events drop-down menu for a list of future events.
At most of our events there will be available Yellow, Orange and Light Green courses. Although, as we cover the whole of Mid Wales, some events will be nearer than others of course, so why not persuade the whole family to come along and try the sport?
However, after a couple of competitions or even straight away, you might wish to join MWOC. Why not download the form below and send it to our Club Membership Secretary (Robert Griffiths)? This form is ready for 2018, but will give you the rest of 2017 for free!

Email: membership@mid-wales-orienteers.org.uk

Advantages of joining MWOC include:-
Cheaper entry fees; availability of Colour Coded courses as you progress; invitation to go along to Welsh Junior Squad training (many training weekends are run in Mid Wales) with the possibility of representing Wales (Boys and Girls age group teams) at the Junior Home Internationals or Regional Championships for those with true potential.
