Aberedw 2014 Report

Winning team of the orange course with Leaders,

We were again favoured with beautiful weather especially bearing in mind the time of year, ideal conditions for both competitors, spectators and helpers.

Catering was laid on by Alastair Smith one of our Explorer Scouts who was raising money towards his selection to the World Jamboree, which is being held in Japan next year. Through the sale of burgers, cake and hot and cold drinks he was able to raise £106 and he would personally like to take this opportunity in thanking everyone for their support.

Presentations were held after the event for the winners of the Yellow, Orange and L.Green courses of the scout competition. The results have been posted seperately as a PDF file under the quick link Scouts. Medals were issued to the first, second and third of each category with a cup to the team winners of each course.

A special thanks to Bill Marlow and Bev Smith for doing both the club and scout competition entries, Nigel Elgar for looking after the start, Karen Elgar for helping with the catering and Dave Holt for helping with the car park and issuing of dibbers to Scout Leaders. Also a thank you to those people who helped out in searching for the two scouts who managed to get lost on the yellow course

Finally I would like to express my sincere apologies to all those competitors taking part in the L.Green and Blue courses where I had inadvertently reversed two controls but had not amended the map to show them correctly. This meant that runners were spending a great deal of time looking for the correct control number which was now in the wrong location and consequently leading to either recording a mis punch or giving up and retiring. Because of this I have asked Bill Marlow to adjust the finish times for all those competing in the L.Green and Blue courses to reflect their time at the previous control to the one which was wrong.

On a note for the future this area should be avoided by planners whilst the bracken is in full growth.
