Latvian vistors to Gilwern Hill event 2019,

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO THIS EVENT CLASHING WITH THE VHI's IT HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON 20TH OCTOBER 2019

 

This is a local club event to be held on Gilwern Hill near Hundred House, just north of Builth Wells. There are beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding hills, the Carneddau, Gwaunceste Hill, Aberedw Hill and on a good day the Beacons. If you are new to orienteering come along and have a go there are a number of different courses available to choose from.

Summer Evening Event - Open to all Juniors and families to joing in coaching exercises available beforehand - event open from 5.30-6.30 Yellow course for juniors and ultra sprint 1-2km Timing chip available to hire and help available. Come and challenge yourself to find your way around the checkpoints in the right order - watch out for the changes in levels and fiendish maze of castle walls. Meet at the picnic bench by the war memorial.

2019 Carn Owen

This event is organised by Mid Wales Orienteering Club. It is open to everyone, so come and give orienteering a go and see if you can find your way around the checkpoints.

Carn Owen is a great site for adventure with lots of nooks and crannies amongst the rock outcrops on the hillside with fabulous views towards Nant y Moch and the coast.
Ideal for all ages and abilities, with a range of courses to choose from, for runners, walkers and also for families with children!
The yellow (1.6km  with 70m climb)and orange(2.0 km with 80m climb) courses stick to the lower slopes and are ideal for beginners and improvers.
The Light green (3.1 km with 130m climb) and Blue (4.9 km with 260m Climb) both go onto the higher ground where accurate navigation is required amid the many rock features there
Please do ask at registration if you would like any help and  advice re which course to do.  Its our fourth  event of the year and a chance to gain some points in the MWOC league tables.
The great views on a sunny day also mean it can be really exposed on a windy and wet one so please come prepared whatever the weather and bring a whistle.  mean it can be really exposed in Weather can be very variable. 
The farmer will not  have sheep on the area and so dogs that are under full control will be allowed.

2019 Welsh Orienteering Championships Nash Woods, near Presteigne

The 2019 Welsh Orienteering Championships will be held in Nash Woods, near Presteigne, Radnorshire on Sunday 3 March. Mid-Wales Orienteers are the organising club this year

 

Nash Woods straddles the Welsh-English border and is convenient for most locations in Wales and the West Midlands. The woodland is a mixture of conifer stands of all ages, ancient woodland and some wonderful runnable broadleaved areas. There is an extensive path network, offering good opportunities for novice orienteering and route choice for the more experienced.
