MWOC’s first event for 2014

The first event of the year at Nant yr Arian/Esgair Gorlan had a great turn out and we were treated to glorious sunshine. Will have to remember to plan for the assembly area to be in the sun next time! Zoe did sterling work on entries and download and Fay doing an early run round the Blue course for quality control and on starts. Steve kept orderly queues at the starts - will have to sign him up for January sales crowd control.

Thanks for your patience for those of you who were waiting for maps - if you want to make sure there is a map reserved for you in the future just drop an email to Terry Smith about a week before an event //';l[1]='a';l[2]='/';l[3]='<';l[4]='|107';l[5]='|117';l[6]='|46';l[7]='|103';l[8]='|114';l[9]='|111';l[10]='|46';l[11]='|115';l[12]='|114';l[13]='|101';l[14]='|101';l[15]='|116';l[16]='|110';l[17]='|101';l[18]='|105';l[19]='|114';l[20]='|111';l[21]='|45';l[22]='|115';l[23]='|101';l[24]='|108';l[25]='|97';l[26]='|119';l[27]='|45';l[28]='|100';l[29]='|105';l[30]='|109';l[31]='|64';l[32]='|103';l[33]='|110';l[34]='|105';l[35]='|112';l[36]='|112';l[37]='|97';l[38]='|109';l[39]='>';l[40]='"';l[41]='|107';l[42]='|117';l[43]='|46';l[44]='|103';l[45]='|114';l[46]='|111';l[47]='|46';l[48]='|115';l[49]='|114';l[50]='|101';l[51]='|101';l[52]='|116';l[53]='|110';l[54]='|101';l[55]='|105';l[56]='|114';l[57]='|111';l[58]='|45';l[59]='|115';l[60]='|101';l[61]='|108';l[62]='|97';l[63]='|119';l[64]='|45';l[65]='|100';l[66]='|105';l[67]='|109';l[68]='|64';l[69]='|103';l[70]='|110';l[71]='|105';l[72]='|112';l[73]='|112';l[74]='|97';l[75]='|109';l[76]=':';l[77]='o';l[78]='t';l[79]='l';l[80]='i';l[81]='a';l[82]='m';l[83]='"';l[84]='=';l[85]='f';l[86]='e';l[87]='r';l[88]='h';l[89]=' ';l[90]='a';l[91]='<'; for (var i = l.length-1; i >= 0; i=i-1){ if (l[i].substring(0, 1) == '|') document.write("&#"+unescape(l[i].substring(1))+";"); else document.write(unescape(l[i]));} //]]> ">. Thanks Terry for all your map printing.

It was great to welcome old faces and new. Furthest travelled was former Chair Dave Brodie who had just popped over from China to join us. As planners it was great to hear the gaggles of people discussing which controls were difficult to find, most enjoyable legs, best eureka moment on discovering a control and comparing route choices and great to see so many happy faces. The mix of the forest and open area of Esgair Gorlan provided a great contrast with some incredible views to snow topped Plynlimon if you had time to appreciate them! The yellow course had sad faces to help let you know if you had missed a turning which is great if you are trying a course on your own for the first time. Don't forget to check the numbers on your controls - a few of you missed the last control in the clearing just before the finish which was a little way off the path - well done those who found it!

The Welsh Junior Squad fundraising cake stall proved popular with some strategic purchasing before running. Thankyou for your support. Thanks to all those who helped collect controls - a great opportunity to practise - do let the organisers know if you are willing to collect controls in afterwards. Please do drop us an email if you have any feedback or queries - contact details are on the website. Results will be on the website too.

Look forward to seeing you at our next event on 16th February 2014 which Clive is planning and organising at Allt y Crib near Talybont north of Abeystwyth.
