Mid-Wales Orienteering Clubs final event of 2015 will be held next Sunday, 13 December. The location is the Aberystwyth University Campus and surrounding mapped area and the event is what is known as an ‘Urban Sprint’. Many of the same challenges as forest or open hill orienteering but the streams, ditches and knolls are substituted for staircases, alleyways and if you don’t pay attention ‘uncrossable walls’ - which may mean a long detour!

Great fun for all and with the added bonus of this being our annual Christmas event, there is a chance for us all to have a meal (after we have collected the controls!) in the Ta MedDa university restaurant (£5-6 for a Sunday roast).

After the meal, the annual club awards will take place for 1st, 2nd and 3rd  on the blue, light green, orange and yellow courses. Up to 5 best scores during 2015 count.

Terrain

The area is a mixtures of paths, roads, alleyways, car parks etc. Although there is a 20mph speed limit on the University Campus, all competitors should exercise extreme caution when crossing roads and running round corners of buildings at speed. M16/W16 and under can only run the short course unaccompanied. Any M16/W16 or younger who wish to run the long course must be shadowed by a M18/W18 or older. Several adults will be on hand!

Map & Control Descriptions

1:5,000 with 5m contours. Maps will be A4, printed on waterproof paper. Control descriptions will be printed on the maps and there will be loose ones at registration.
