The first event of the Club’s 2018 schedule, is next Sunday, 7 January, at Coed Maenarthur, Pontrhydygroes. Come and start your year of orienteering by enjoying the challenge of this Ystwyth Valley woodland, with stunning views and a visit to Grogwynion Falls for those on the longer courses and interesting riverside woodland for all courses.


Most of the running on shorter courses will be on paths, with several steep sections of woodland for those choosing the Light Green or Blue courses Interesting crags and contour features with river running along the south of the wood.

Location & Directions

If approaching from Aberystwyth, take the B4340 towards Tregaron and turn left at Abermagwr. Travel through New Row and access Coed Maenarthur from the track 500m west of New Row (GR SN 736 729) off the minor road from Abermagwr to Pontrhydygroes. Follow the O signs to parking and registration

Starts - 10.30 to 11.30 

Courses close at 12.45

Enter on the day at registration. Entry fees are as follows: 

MWOC members – Adults £3.0, Juniors £1.50
BOF members – Adults £5.0, Juniors £2.50
Non members – Adults £7.00, Juniors £3.0

About the area/map

Coed Maenarthur

Steep Forestry Commission woodland with crags and contour features in abundance, approximately 2000 meters long by 800 meters wide. Bordered on its southern area by a river which runs along ite entire length.
